Kerr’s Miniature Railway by Lawson Little

Scotlands oldest 10¼” public railway but possibly one of the shortest at barely a quarter mile in length. First opened in 1935, it has the distinction of having been under the control throughout its 65 year life of just two generations of the Kerr family. Lawson Little’s book includes history from the early days when Matthew Kerr (Senior) builds a short 7¼in gauge line; conversion to 10¼in gauge; the war years; post war years and decline; and then a new era dawns when son Matt takes over the railway in 1978.

Poole Park Railway, 1949-1999 by Keith Guy

This 10¼in gauge railway in Poole, Dorset, UK has been in existence since 1949. This fascinating book documents the construction and establishment of the line by its founder George Vimpany. It then follows the trails and tribulations of current joint owner Brian Merrifield. Many interesting black and white prints including an aerial shot.

The Surrey Border & Camberley Railway by Mitchell, Townsend & Shelmerdine

History of the most ambitious 10¼” gauge railway of all time and its antecedents the Foxhill and Farnborough Miniature Railways. Laid down in 1938, the SB&CR connected Farnborough and Camberley 2½ miles away. Time tabled trains were run 12 months a year until the outbreak of war brought about it’s early demise. Locomotives included Bullock Pacifics and Kitson 2-6-0+0-6-2 Garrats. Chapters cover the origins of the 10¼in gauge, history of the Foxhill and Farnborough railways; construction and operation of the SB&CR; ‘biography; of all 13 locomotives, The book is illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs, maps, contemporary advertisements, tickets etc.

You sometimes see s/h copies of the softback but hardback is very scarce.
